Trip to Calcutta (Kolkata) India.

Thought I'd throw this letter up on my blog to let you guys know what I'm going to be involved in this May, very exciting!

STUDENT MISSION TRIP 2007

Dear Friends,

Greetings! I want to share with you a tremendous opportunity that God has opened up to me to serve Him this summer. I have been accepted as part of a student team that will be going to Calcutta, India for several weeks in May. I am actually going to be leading the team, along with another Tyndale student. Partnering with Stewart and Monique Shaw (Peoples Church missionaries), we will be assisting with their ministries to child addicts living on the streets, and with prostitutes and their families. The women on the team will work with Monique in outreach to the pavement dwellers outside their Coffee House and in the brothels. The whole team will also work alongside Stewart in his ministry at the train station to the kids who live there, many of whom have substance addictions.

I am excited about the experience that lies ahead, both for ministry to others and for personal growth as I seek to communicate Christ cross-culturally. India is somewhere I didn’t anticipate having the chance to go, but God has really had a hold of my life as he’s lead me into this adventure. Going to Urbana (A huge youth missions conference) in St Louis, Missouri, in December was a catalyst in my life for God doing new things in my heart and leading me into a deeper commitment and relationship with him and with his kingdom here on earth. He has been teaching me a great deal recently about what it means to live in this kingdom and to minister to and with the poor and the oppressed.

We recognize that our service needs to be supported in prayer and so would first ask you to consider joining our team in this regard. I will supply you with a schedule and prayer needs before I leave, and will share with you the blessings of what God accomplishes through us on our return. It would be great to have you minister with us through your prayers for the people of India.

We also have financial needs to cover the airfare, inoculations, room and board, health insurance and ministry costs of this trip. Each team member needs to raise approximately $3400, and this amount must be on hand by the end of April. Please consider being a part of this mission team in this regard. If God leads you to participate with financial support, make your cheques payable to Tyndale University College and Seminary and note ‘India Trip’ and my name on the memo line. All donations for the student mission team are tax deductible and will be receipted accordingly. Note that receipts are usually sent out at year-end, but can be issued immediately, upon request.

Thanks in advance for your prayers and financial support. May God richly bless you as you partner with us in this outreach. I know many of you have supported me in the past with my ongoing work in Zambia, Africa and I want you to know just how much I appreciate you in my life. The Lord has taught me a great deal through your obedience and love, and I am very thankful.

Your sister in Christ,

Hannah Price

Sounds like an awesome opportunity, Hannah. I am so excited for you! May, should be an interesting time of the year to be there - it will probably be crazy hot - but I guess you may have experienced some heat having been in Africa too. Anyways, so great how the Lord is working in your heart and has given you a love for His people. It is encouraging to hear of your obedience in simply following Him. Blessings!

MISSIONS FEST: I'm not sure if I can go now! We're running a conference here on the same weekend, and I don't know if I'll be able to sneak away. I might try to come Saturday morning, but I will let you know for sure when I know for sure. If I'm there, we will DEFINATELY hang out!!
